Our mobile application measures the carbon footprint you are avoiding by making sustainable transportation choices. For every 100 grams of CO2 you avoid, you are rewarded with 1 KORA token. You can spend your KORAS in our rewards hub which offers discounts on a range of products and services, including on innovative sustainable products
In addition, you can create teams, join other groups, compare your results with friends and family as well as against local, national, and global averages.

Have you ever heard Greta Thunberg’s statement about our CO2 budget and carbon emissions? She mentions that we have 420 gigatons of carbon dioxide left in our CO2 budget and that we currently emit 42 gigatons of CO2 a year. But does this make sense to you?, Its not easy to connect these abstract numbers to our daily actions and their impact on the environment. For example, how much CO2 do we actually emit by driving our car or taking public transport?
This is where KORA comes in! KORA calculates your carbon footprint and your carbon footprint reduction based on the transportation choices that you make. For example, did you know that for every 1 km of a bike ride, you reduce about 192 grams of CO2? And taking the tram saves about 163 grams per km? With KORA, you don’t need to calculate your carbon savings; the application does it automatically based on your movements.
The best part is for every 100 grams of CO2 you avoid emitting; KORA will issue one KORA token for you.
We won’t “punish” you for the CO2 you emit using your car or flying. Instead, we will measure it and let you decide when you are ready to take steps to avoid those emissions. Using KORA, you can easily make small changes to your lifestyle and become more conscious and eco-friendly!

Currently, we’re using a third-party solution that relies on your phone’s GPS and acceleration measurements. While it’s not 100% precise, we’re working hard to improve the system. You may notice some small errors, like the app thinking you’re driving when you’re really on public transportation, but we’re aware of these issues and appreciate your patience and feedback as we work to make KORA even better.

Calculations are based on the following: A. how much you are commuting per day compared to your country’s average and B. the difference between the carbon footprint of the transportation mode to driving a car (at a later stage, we will compare it to the average emissions per kilometer in your country).

In contrast to the conventional approach of valuing carbon production, KORA implements a novel system that assigns a monetary value to carbon reduction. Specifically, KORA incentivises individuals to reduce their carbon footprint by rewarding them with a digital token called “KORA,” Each token represents 100 grams of carbon reduction.
For many years, the traditional carbon credits system has struggled to achieve the target value of $120 per metric ton of carbon. As of March 2023, the current carbon price in Europe is approximately €100 per metric ton. However, to reach the Paris Agreement target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, the actual price of carbon should be €700 per metric ton.
KORA takes the concept of valuing carbon reduction to the next level by setting the value of one metric ton of carbon avoided at €1,000. The value of KORA is determined by the level of discounts available in its in-app marketplace. Although setting such a high price for carbon reduction is ambitious, KORA believes that the value of avoiding carbon emissions is far greater than offsetting or removing them from the atmosphere.
